James Heck is a first generation skydiver and was introduced to the sport at the young age of 14 from a peer. He started packing parachutes during high school while waiting until he was old enough to jump. Making 3 tandem jumps in 2014, it wasn’t until the following year that his solo career began, where he made some 360 jumps. Averaging a jump per day he spent all of his time at the DZ. He started free flying, flying tandem videography, and acquired his coach rating, wingsuiting became an enjoyable way to switch up the fun jumping game. Before turning 21 James got his tandem rating and his jump numbers tripled. In 2017 he got his AFF-I rating and started to give back more of himself to the sport.
Progressing quickly on his canopy journey, James’s love for canopy flight was further fuelled. Fast forward 7 years and with over 8,000 jumps, James still enjoys fun jumping as if he got his licensed a week ago. He loves traveling to other drop zones and boogies as he sees it as an awesome way to experience different perspectives and vibes that come from the different walks of life in skydiving.
James continues to push himself and his limits on canopy and body flight but still enjoys coaching the basics. James loves seeing the progression made from jumpers that were once his students making their first jumps and learning from some of their experiences is a prime example of when the student becomes the teacher.
Overall the joy and experiences this sport brings to so many people, is why he feels he could never mentally pass up getting on that next load! With a drive to keep moving forward and see what the world of skydiving has to offer, there is no sign of James slowing down anytime soon! If you see James on the DZ be sure to say hi, you might get some jumps in with him and create memories that will last a lifetime!
